Evacuation
Rounded Rectangle: Hello and welcome to the evacuation page! In World War II, many children, pregnant women and some disabled people were evacuated from their home town. People were normally evacuated if they lived in a large town/city, as these areas got bombed the most. Nervous, sad and many other feelings, they were evacuated into the countryside, mainly by train and boat.
The first official evacuations started in 1939, on the 1st September. It was called ‘Operation Pied Piper’. In January of 1940, almost 60% of the people who had been evacuated had returned to their homes. Soon though, all of these people had to be re-evacuated!
