CHINA WEEK BEGINS WITH GREAT SUCCESS!

This is the first report from China week and it is based on the activities that have happened today.
After the busy rush of this morning all the groups have gone off to different activities. China week is a sort of sequel of global week but instead of focusing on lots of different countries BPSP are looking completely and utterly at China. All the children are getting to know where they're supposed to go and getting to grips with moving from classroom to classroom. Every single child looks like they're enjoying themselves and they think that the activities are great.
So that moves us onto the subject of cooking, we will now talk about watching Andy make and prepare two Chinese dishes.

Andy is a fully trained chef and kindly came in to make and prepare
two Chinese dishes. The two dishes Chicken chop suey and a
noodle dish smelt and looked delicious. Three lucky people who
answered the questions right got to have a spoon/forkful of one
of the scrumptious dishes. Andy (the chef) also prepared for the
dragon dancers and Chinese musicians to put on a 'show' for the
children.

Then two reporters from Hot off the Press went and interviewed a child about making and learning about Chinese dragon puppets. Alice, a year 7 girl, said "Dragon making has been easy so far and I think the colour that
Represents Chinese dragons and China most is Red because it is bright and colourful and brings luck to people."
She also said "I have only done dragon making so far but the cooking demo. was fantastic. Also I'm not sure if it will be better then global week but I hope it is!"
Hot Off The Press
also interviewed Mrs Powell and she said "The dragon is a very important figure in the Chinese religion and culture and traditionally there is a dragon dance but we couldn't even think about making a full size dragon so we decided to make smaller paper models and make them do the dance."
She also expressed her thoughts on the subject of China week and how it will help the pupils by saying, "I think the children will learn an awful lot about China and of course other areas of certain subjects, but we mustn't forget a very important part of this week is that each child has the opportunity of working in a group of children of all different ages. So, it's really nice for the year 4's to work with the year 7's and all the year groups get to work together and know each other. Hot off the Press asked her whether or not the lesson was up to the standard she could have hoped for and she replied, "Yes, it's always a bit rushed though and trying to get everything done in time is tricky but they're handling it quite well."

The first day of China week has been a brilliant success please go to the photo's section to view some pictures of the activities throughout the day.
