Art
Who?
Where?
When?
How?
WHY?
Art doesn't provide answers… it asks questions
Below are descriptions of the topics studies within each year group:
Y4 -
We examine how to the face is structured and create realistic portraits, before throwing the rulebook away and creating abstract faces in the style of PICASSO.
Getting our hands dirty, we construct modern abstract clay sculptures inspired by the works of HENRY MOORE and ANTHONY GORMLEY.
Looking all around us at patterns in Nature, we create our own pieces of NATURAL ART just like ANDY GOLDSWORTHY.
Y5 -
We concentrate on developing our line drawing and pattern making techniques in a black-and-white MINIBEAST project.
Investigating the work of MONET and TURNER, we then focus on creating WATERWORLDS using collage and texture in both 2D and 3D media.
We examine different elements of LANDSCAPE painting, such as background, middle ground, foreground and simple perspective, before creating SCENIC SILHOUETTES and textured and layered CLAY TILES.
The wild and wacky landscapes of HUNTERWASSSER inspire our crazy and colourful postcard pictures.
Y6 -
In the SURREALISM project - ESCHER, MAGRITTTE & MAX ERNST all help us to look at the world a bit differently.
We explore how signs, symbols and metaphors can be used to communicate ideas and meanings about JOURNEYS, taking in artists such as KANDINSKY and ABORIGINAL forms.
We look at how different colours are made and how they affect the viewer before using this knowledge to create works inspired by the POP ARTISTS - ANDY WARHOL & ROY LICHTENSTEIN.
Y7 -
Studying THE HUMAN FIGURE, we start off by looking at proportion and foreshortening in OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING, before tackling how to convey MOVEMENT in our pictures.
GIACOMETTI inspires our second project - constructing stretched wire figures and finishing them with a bronze effect.
Casting our own faces in Mod-roc, we create MASKS to convey a sense of emotion inspired by Mother Nature.
We examine a number of SILK PAINTING techniques before creating bold and colourful wildlife motifs, and then as a celebration of our hobbies, interests and a memento of our time at BPSP, we finish the summer term by designing and painting our very own CUSTOMISED SILK TIES.
